Ramayana, The Game of Life- Shattered Dreams: Book Review

Title- Ramayana, The Game of Life- Shattered Dreams
Author- Shubha Vilas
Publisher- Jaico Books
Genre- Mythological

Story in a Nutshell: Shattered Dreams is the sequel to the national bestseller, Rise of the Sun Prince, in the new spiritual and motivational serires Ramayana- The Game of Life. Tweleve joyful years have passed in Ayodhya sice the wedding of Rama and Sita at the end of Book 1.

Now, in Shattered Dreams,  Shubha Vilas narrates the riveting drama of Rama's exile. Through the tales of Raman's unwavering and enigmatic persona, the book teaches us how to handle reversals positively; through Bharat's actions, it teaches us to handle temptation; and through Sita's courage, to explore beyond our comfort zone. This complicated family drama provides deep insights on how human relationships work and how they fail.

With Valmiki's Ramayana as its guiding light, Shattered Dreams deftly entwines poetic beauty from the Kamba Ramayana and Ramacharitamanas, as well as folk philosophy from the Loka Pramana tales, to demonstrate how the ancient epic holds immediate relevance to modern life. Experience the ancient saga of the Ramayana, like never before!

My Thoughts on the book: I received a copy with a personalized note from the Bloagadda Team. Some of us would be aware about Valmiki's Ramayana and some of you must have also read read the Ramcharitmanas. But most of us would have real fresh memories of Ramanand Sagar's Sampoorna Ramayana that was telecast on Doordarshan. This book by Shubha Vilas comes very close to it. What makes me say this?

The narration of the book is so good that while reading the text, you can actually visualise Arun Govil (Rama of the TV series), you can feel the emotions attached to every scene. It is a complete family drama intricately woven around all the characters of Ramayana. One highlight of the book is that the author has tried to relate the ancient epic and it's circumstances to modern day living, clearly explaining the parts in today's context, as and when applicable.

My Final Take: I finished this book in 3 days flat. The plot is intense. I totally recommend this book as a Bed time & Travel Read. You can also gift this to your young kids who like reading.Would like to rate this a 3.75/5.
